About

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Rachel Louise Berggren

Community, like nature, is an ecosystem, the parts of which are inextricable from the whole.  Over the years, I have found myself belonging and relating to many different forms of community. I have engaged with the challenges that humanity grapples with from many different perspectives.

  • Studied Anthropology at the Bachelor’s level, deepening my understanding of human and cultural dynamics.
  • Conducted workshops and trainings on social justice and inequity
  • Worked in public health on child abuse prevention
  • Led an interdisciplinary literary magazine and community hub for conversations on the climate crisis
  • Completed a Masters in Sustainability Sciences with a concentration in Sustainable Food Systems
  • Developed strategic plans, conducted research and needs assessments, and led programs and projects focused on regional food systems
  • Led a grass roots non-profit focused on building food security in rural Massachusetts

The central thread through it all has been seeing the crucial role community plays in shaping us and that we play in shaping it. Understanding this is central to exploring who we are and who we are becoming.

The roots of this blog began to take shape after studying Anthropology. This gave birth to what had been planted inside me long ago; a motivation and a passion to understand people, perspectives and the way that both come together to shape the world that we live in. Through my studies and experiences, I have come to see that all of our lives, down to the smallest details, are part of the story of human experience.  With this blog, I hope to engage people in relating to themselves and the world of which we are all a part.

The question I aim to answer with my writing is, how can engagement around issues that influence and shape our humanity help us to transform our own cultures, our world and our individual lives?

The study of culture and human behavior is tied into everything that we do, the ways that we feel and interact and the structures and norms at play in our world.  The goal of AnthroPerspectives is to explore how studying what shapes human behavior can help us to understand ourselves and each other more deeply.  By participating in conversations and reflection on what impacts us, we will be better equipped to understand and tackle individual and societal problems that we face.
